City calling for comments on land earmarked for housing in Milnerton

The City of Cape Town is calling on residents, and interested and affected parties to submit comment on the development application for erven in Racing Park, Milnerton, that have been earmarked for state-subsidised housing. The proposed development will be undertaken by the Western Cape Department of Human Settlements. Read more below:

The City’s Development Management Department has received an application for the rezoning and consolidation of nine erven in Winning Way, Racing Park, Milnerton.

The erven are located next to the Racing Park industrial area, and to the west of Dunoon. Although vacant, there are existing roads and services – water, sewer, stormwater, and electrical infrastructure – serving the erven.

The application was submitted on behalf of the Western Cape Department of Human Settlements for the development of a transitional residential area comprising approximately 1 500 units in blocks of flats

The application concerns, among others, the rezoning of the erven from General Industry Zoning 1 to Mixed Use Zoning 1.

The closing date for objections, comments and representations is Friday, 20 July 2020. The commenting period has been shortened in terms of the Land Use Planning Act (LUPA) to allow for an expedited planning approvals process in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Comments must be submitted on the prescribed form, together with a motivation. The prescribed form can be downloaded at: https://www.capetown.gov.za/LandUseObjections.

The form may be submitted to the following email address: comments_objections.blaauwberg@capetown.gov.za, or submitted in writing to the office of the Blaauwberg District Manager.

‘I urge all interested parties and stakeholders to please take note of this urgent development application, and to comment by next Friday, 20 July 2020. The commenting period has been shortened as we are in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, this application is viewed as being urgent. The applicable documents are available online, as indicated above,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Alderman Marian Nieuwoudt.
